Juan Guaidó denounces that “Maduro is about to issue arrest warrant” against him

Juan Guaidó, the former interim president of Venezuela and leader of the opposition, has reported that the regime of Nicolas Maduro is planning to arrest him in the coming hours. Guaidó made the announcement in a video posted on his social media accounts on April 2, amidst a series of arrests of officials and personalities close to chavism, who have been accused of corruption in the state oil company PDVSA and other public entities.

In the video, Guaidó revealed that he has received information from three separate sources that Maduro’s regime intends to issue a warrant for his arrest on false charges, possibly along with other opposition figures. The accusation is apparently related to the company Monómeros, which Maduro’s regime seeks to auction off, but which Guaidó considers to be Venezuelan patrimony. Guaidó emphasized that his government had investigated accusations of corruption in the company, ordered external audits, and held the management accountable.

Guaidó also accused Maduro’s regime of bearing a grudge against him because of his defiance from the outset of his presidency. He argued that the regime seeks to persecute him and change the focus of attention after the recent confession of corruption that has left the country in ruins. According to Guaidó, the confession shows that the country’s problems have nothing to do with sanctions or blockades, but with looting by Maduro and his supporters.

Guaidó directed a message to Maduro, stating that he and his supporters will continue fighting for a free and democratic Venezuela. He called on Maduro to stop the persecution and intimidation of opposition figures and to accept that the people of Venezuela do not want him in power. Guaidó also reminded Maduro that his electoral prospects are bleak, and urged him to leave the country for Cuba or Russia, so that Venezuelans can live in peace.

It should be noted that Guaidó’s interim government was dissolved in December 2022 by the majority of former deputies who had previously supported him in 2019.
